In conjunction with the arrival of the Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay in Malaysia, BTOP represented Malaysia in hosting football coaching drills during the Queen’s Baton Relay Festival (QBRF).
The football coaching drills were aimed to help develop leadership, teamwork, and confidence. According to Jazreel Goh, the British Council Malaysia Director, sports can be a positive catalyst to help change the lives of vulnerable communities.
Module 1 : Football Drills
Aim : To introduce and develop fundamental football skills.
Beneficiaries : 41 participants, 13 coaches, 10 community coaches.
Hour : 1 hour
Description : The football drills were divided into four stations which introduced different techniques, including static passing, dynamic passing, shooting, and dribbling. The drills progressed from low, intermediate, and high ability levels.
Module 2 : Talk then Play
Aim : To encourage communication and interaction between participants.
Beneficiaries : 41 participants, 13 coaches, 10 community coaches.
Hour : 1 hour
Description : In between play time, the participants were given the opportunity to catch their breath and relax while interacting with one another. Coaches were also given the opportunity to provide feedback on the drills conducted, giving support and words of encouragement, and introduce them to the next drill.
Module 3 : Mini Match
Aim : To provide a sense of belonging and inculcate teamwork in team play.
Beneficiaries : 41 participants, 13 coaches, 10 community coaches.
Hour : 2 hours
Description : Mini matches were conducted between two boy teams and two girl teams. Here, the students applied their football skills to the test. In the end, the girl’s match resulted in a 4 – 0, whereas the boy’s match was 3 – 0.
BTOP has a long history of sport and physical coaching since 2009. In 2022, the Active Community Engagement (ACE@BTOP) was made possible with the collaboration with ILTIZAM by Ekuinas and SK Badak.
ACE@BTOP emphasised football as a healthy outlet for youths’ mental and physical health. Through football, underprivileged students were given the opportunity to attend football training with trained coaches.
Additionally, participants also benefited through frequent psychological support programmes conducted by counsellors. Here, students were taught to improve their emotional intelligence through interactive group activities.
At the end of the programme, parents and teachers saw the effectiveness of sport as a method of mental health promotion, inculcation of good behaviours, and discipline.

2020
Aim : To provide free football training as a creative way to prevent social issues among the underprivileged students.
Beneficiaries : 63 participants

Description : BTOP football programme was established in 2019, a haven for the youths to play, learn, and explore their potentials under the guidance of professional coaches. We believe that through active participation, the youths of SMK Badak will learn the value of sportsmanship and co-operation.
Aim : To provide exposure to the sport of archery among underprivileged students.
Beneficiaries : 16 participants
Hour : 22 hours
Description : BTOP archery programme opened up the opportunities for underserved children to participate in archery. Participants gained access to archery equipment, professional coaches, and competed in prestigious tournaments. The participants consisted of boys and girls aged 10 – 15 years old from SK Mentuan and SMK Kubang Kerian. In the annual MSSD Bachok 2020, they scored 1 silver and 5 bronze medals, qualifying them to compete in MSS Kelantan.
Aim : To utilise futsal as a creative way to promote the use of English in daily conversation.
Beneficiaries : 88 participants.

Description : FIE stands for “Futsal in English”, which is a unique concept of combining sports and soft skills training. In Futsal FIE, English was used as the medium of instruction delivery and communication.
Aim : To provide a safe space for the youths of Mentuan to play sports.
Beneficiaries : 60 beneficiaries

Description : The sixth Cruyff Court under Yayasan Hasanah and Johan Cruyff Foundation was launched on 22nd January 2020 at SK Mentuan, Kota Bharu. BTOP was appointed by Yayasan Hasanah to manage all programmes related to Cruyff Court Mentuan. The court is also open for students and the public as well.
Aim : To receive bronze accreditation of FAM SupaRimau Charter status for BTOP Football Academy.
Description : The FAM SupaRimau Charter is an endorsement tool to support football academies in their roles of implementing grassroots programmes and activities. On the 2nd September 2020, BTOP Football Academy received bronze accreditation, which allows them to participate in FAM’s grassroots league and enable the participants to receive various privileges.
2019
Aim : To provide free football training as a creative way to prevent social issues among the underprivileged students.
Beneficiaries : 32 participants

Description : BTOP Football programme was conducted in SMK Badak to tackle social issues and absenteeism. Football training acted as a positive reinforcement of good behaviors. During the training, the rapport built between the coaches and the player enabled the coaches to give motivational talks and emotional support. In 2019, BTOP football under 15 and under 18 teams both qualified up to quarter finals in MSS Bachok.
Aim : To enable students to participate in futsal training to improve their physical and mental well-being.
Beneficiaries : 35 participants

Description : Similar to the football programme, the BTOP Futsal programme was also aimed to provide a healthy outlet for the youths to spend their time, thus promoting healthy lifestyle and mental health. BTOP Futsal team was the champion in Liga Futsal BTOP 2019 for the under 14 boys category.
Aim : To provide exposure to the sport of archery among underprivileged students.
Beneficiaries : 21 participants

Description : BTOP Archery training was first established in the year 2019. Students from SK Mentuan and SMK Kubang Kerian were the first two schools involved in this project. From this training, two participants successfully won silver medals in the MSS Kota Bharu, thus qualifying them to compete in the MSS Kelantan. In the MSS Kelantan, they both received 2nd runner up placements.
