HOPE Programme

BTOP has collaborated with Yayasan Hasanah to conduct the HOPE Programme in SMK Badak, Bachok, Kelantan. HOPE consisted of 3 key components.

Firstly, “Rakan BTOP” aimed to introduce mental health first aid training for Pembimbing Rakan Sebaya (PRS) to empower them with knowledge to help their distressed peers and become compassionate student leaders.

Secondly, the HOPE programme also tackled the issue of increasing mental health issues among the students via increasing awareness and self-care strategies for the at-risk students.

Finally, parents of students with mental health issues were also invited for parenting talk and consultation with counselors. This is to help them understand adolescents’ mental health issues and expose them to effective communication. 

Module 1 : Rakan BTOP
Aim : To empower peer support through mental health first aid training among the Pembimbing Rakan Sebaya of SMK Badak.
Beneficiaries : 32 PRS
Hour : 50 hours

Module 2 : Mental Health Intervention
Aim : To provide prevention and early intervention for students at risk of having mental health problems.
Beneficiaries : 43 Students at risk of having mental health problems.
Hour : 32 hours

Module 3 : Parental Coaching
Aim : To raise awareness on the issue of adolescents’ mental health among parents and caregivers.
Beneficiaries : 43 Parents and caregivers of students at risk of having mental health problems.
Hour : 9 hours

Psychological Support Programme (123 BMU)

Topic : Webinar Pengurusan Emosi

Aim : To build resilience and improve emotional literacy among participants.

Beneficiaries : 972 audience reached

Hour : 2 hours

Description : The webinar was delivered by a prominent figure in the field of mental health and a consultant psychiatrist from Hospital USM, Associate Professor Dr Asrenee Ab Razak. During the session, she shared various tips on emotional management, building resilience, and promoting emotional stability among the public. The webinar was live-streamed via BTOP Facebook, which garnered about 1000 impressions and audiences.

Topic : Webinar Kesihatan Mental: Remaja, Kemurungan, dan Bunuh Diri

Aim : To create awareness on the issue of adolescent depression and suicide.

Beneficiaries : 4400 audience reached

Hour : 2 hours

Description : The mental health webinar was co-organised with the Department of Psychiatry, Hospital USM. The panelists included Dr Picholas Phoa (mental health researcher, Universiti Sains Malaysia), Associate Professor Dr Asrenee Ab Razak (consultant psychiatrist, Hospital USM), and Hj. Rudie Yaakub (certified community coach). The fruitful webinar created awareness and reduced the stigma on mental health among the audiences.

Module : Nasi Berlauk Teh Beng

Aim : To engage and provide emotional support to the participants

Beneficiaries : 58 students of SMK Badak

Hour : 10 hours

Description : PSP module, also known as “Nasi Berlauk Teh Beng”, was introduced to motivate students to study and teach them proper stress management skills. Nasi berlauk (mixed rice) and teh beng (iced tea) are the Kelantanese’s favourite lunch, which was the inspiration for this module. PSP built rapport through one thing we love most – food, to focus on the psychological preparation of the students prior to their SPM examination. Parents were also involved in this module as they played important roles in supporting their children mentally and emotionally for the examination.
